Daughters passport..opinions please?

Me and my partner are planning on going home this year, but our daughter at 5months doesnt yet have her passport!

We NEED to go home in September but the only flight we can afford is on the 7th...which is obvously not enough time to get her passport back etc...

There is an urgent service at the passport office which you can receive the passport in 24 hours if you have a travel document.

Is it a bad idea to book the flights and then take the documents into the office?

I got the information from;

http://www.pptc.gc.ca/cdn/service.aspx?l...

I am just worried about losing out on money...

What do you think? Think i will get the passport on time? Or think i will get rejected and lose out on money?

Do you know if the processing times given on the site are accurate?

I know i should have been organised but our problem just only cropped up recently....

Thanks

  1. Be sure to get your daughter a passport for your country of citizenship to take her home without any immigration hassles.  Go to your nearest consulate with your proof of citizenship and baby's birth certificate, hospital records, passport photos, etc.  Register the birth to a citizen while abroad, and tell them you need to return home immediately with the baby.  They will issue baby a passport or travel documents for you to take her home with you.

    If you try to get a US passport when neither parent is a US citizen, you will encounter delays and difficulties in getting the passport, and then you have to go to your country's consulate to apply for a visa.  If you are leaving on the 7th, get your documentation together and go to your consulate first thing Tuesday morning to get baby a passport there.

  2. We just got our son a Canadian passport and it arrived at our house 5 days later with no expedited service.  It would appear reasonable that if you did pay for urgent service that you could get the passport in 24 hours.

    Get down to the passport office Tuesday morning so you can get things in motion.  Book the flight in advance so you can prove your urgency.

  3. It seems like you can get an Urgent rush on the passport. Of course you will be paying a much higher fee, but if you apply in person, and request Urgent, you should be able to get it in time. Since that is an official website, the processing times should be accurate. I've found that when you pay extra for an expedited service, it is normally very prompt.

    You should have your flight booked before going in, you need proof of travel in order to get the Urgent rush.
