Dav Whatmore arrives in Pakistan to sign coaching contract – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, former Australian batsman, arrived at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, in Lahore, Pakistan, today on March 2, to sign the final contract for the post of the Men in Green’s Head Coach.
After the resignation of former coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380, finally
decided on Whatmore. The 57-year-old will be the team’s fourth foreign coach, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Francis-Lawson-c58815.
“Whatmore and Julien Fountain (being considered for the post of fielding coach) have arrived here and Whatmore will sign a contract as head coach of the Pakistan team,” Alam confirmed today.
Highlights of Whatmore’s resume include, leading the Sri Lankan team to a World Cup win in 1996, and enabling Bangladesh to reach the second round of the World Cup in 2007.
While the board is convinced that Whatmore is just what the national squad needs, the issue of coaching has been a point of contention for experts in Pakistan recently.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in December. These victories
were followed up by a stellar performance in the Test series against England earlier this year, with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team whitewashing the Poms, 3-0.
Owing to his success at coaching the national side, several veterans have called for an extension of Mohsin’s coaching services, demanding that he been signed on as official coach. Khalid Mehmood, former PCB chief, was among the many who claimed that Mohsin’s
removal would be a big mistake, because the current team was clearly a winning combination.
However, the Board was adamant that a professional coach was required for the national squad, which led to the appointment of Whatmore.
The Men in Green have recently fallen into a slump, after their losses to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in the limited-overs leg of the tour. It will be up to the newly appointed coach to rejuvenate the team, and get them back in form in time for the Asia Cup which is due to
begin later this month.
