Dav Whatmore, Pakistan’s coach, is keen to do well in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and expressed that his goal is to make Pakistan one of the top ranked teams of the world.
The Green Shirts have already arrived in the Island and the two-match T20 series is going to commence from Friday at Hambantota. The T20 series will be followed by five One Day Internationals and three Test matches.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 have been playing extra-ordinary cricket since the last eighteen months and have done exceedingly well in all the three formats of the game.
In recent times, the Green Shirts have had a massive psychological edge over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011 and also in Asia Cup 2012. Last year, Misbah ul Haq and company outclassed the Islanders in all the three formats
of the game in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 as well.
Whatmore is of the opinion that not playing home matches is a huge disadvantage for Pakistan but claimed that the team is geared up to deliver the goods against Sri Lanka and also expressed his satisfaction over the preparatory camp held in Lahore.
"Although Pakistan is unable to play any international matches at home due to the security concerns in their country, they managed to practice together before coming to Sri Lanka. We had a pretty decent two weeks camp before we came here," Whatmore said.
The former Australian cricketer has also coached the Sri Lankan team in past but made it clear that his focus in the series will be to achieve success, which will be a step towards becoming one of the best teams of the globe.
Pakistan’s coach added, "That was a long time ago when I finished with Sri Lanka and a lot of water has passed under the bridge. I maintain some friendships which are always good but the task here is to win. The longer goal is to take Pakistan high up in
the rankings in all three formats."
The series against Sri Lanka is going to be a new beginning for Pakistan cricket as a number of changes, including Mohammad Hafeez’s appointment as T20 captain, will take place.
