Dav Whatmore had a say in team selection – PCB sources – Cricket News Update
The newly appointed head coach of Pakistan cricket team, Dav Whatmore played a key role in the selection of squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka and is expected to continue influencing team selection in future, claimed sources from inside the Pakistan Cricket Board.
PCB selectors on Thursday announced separate squads for Test, ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka. The squads were announced at a press conference called on Thursday to announce the board’s new policy decisions.
Well placed sources from inside the board said that the national selectors announcing separate squads for all the three formats of the game shows that the Australian is “calling the shots” in selection matters.
"The fact that for the first time in Pakistan cricket the selectors have announced separate squads for Tests, ODIs and T20 cricket with several changes in their line-ups show that Whatmore is calling the shots,” a PCB official told the media reporters on the condition of anonymity.
Initially the squad was scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 but it was delayed due to the captaincy issues, claimed the official.
"The debate over whether Hafeez was ready for the new responsibilities was the reason the announcement of the teams was delayed for one day," said the source.
The source said that the appointment of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 and another influential figure in the Pakistan Cricket Board backed Hafeez for the role.
Dav Whatmore was appointed as the Pakistan cricket team’s head coach in February earlier this year, after the conclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571’s first assignment with the Pakistan team, which saw the Men in Green clinching the title for the first time since 2000.
