Dav Whatmore, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 coach, is extremely impressed with the all-round ability of Sri Lanka’s all-rounder, Thisara Perera, but feels that international teams will start to cope with the youngster better in the coming years.
The 23-year-old was given a chance to prove his worth in the third Test against Pakistan at Pallekele after a break of almost six months. However, the all-rounder did not disappoint at all and broke Pakistani batting line-up’s back by picking up four scalps
on the first day of the match.
On top of that, Perera came up with a splendid knock and scored a vital 75 off only 86 balls, in which he struck four boundaries and three massive hits out of the park. The left-handed batsman’s cameo changed the course of the match and snatched the advantage
back from the visitors.
The Pakistani coach feels that Perera is a cricketer with immense potential but as the teams start to analyse his strengths and weaknesses, he will be countered much more efficiently.
Whatmore is also impressed by the all-rounder’s fitness, as he bowled lengthy spells on day one of the match.
"[Thisara] is fairly new to international cricket. It will take time for teams to have a true appreciation of the damage he can do," Whatmore said. "It will be harder for him in the second and third year. From what we've seen now, he is a real physical presence
for the home team."
Pakistan lost their gloveman, Adnan Akmal’s services, who fractured his finger while batting on day one of the match, forcing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taufeeq-Umar-c92889 to keep wickets in Sri Lanka’s innings.
The Pakistani mentor expressed that the Green Shirts have been handicapped by Akmal’s injury. However, the coach also praised the spirit Taufeeq showed behind the stumps, although he is not a regular.
"Wicketkeeping is a specialised position and when you haven't got that person in the team it's unfortunate … But Taufeeq battled hard for us, although we gave away a lot of extras. Somebody had to put the gloves for us, so he did a pretty decent job," the
Aussie expressed.
