He, along with fielding coach Julian Fountain, is taking full advantage of the cricketing break and is spending most of it in the interest of national team.
"They (coaches) come to the stadium before the start of the first match and leave late night all the while watching the players in action and taking down notes," a board official said.
The 58-year-old Australian coach is expected to have a meeting with the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, after the conclusion of the event as he has planned to set up a training camp for shortlisted players picked from the national domestic tournament
"It is clear that Whatmore wants to have a close look at the young talent in Pakistan and get a chance to work on them with Fountain," another PCB official said.
The newly appointed coach’s presence in the tournament also means a lot to the players as they know that their good performance will not only win matches but a favor from the coach as well.
“Any player who impresses the coach will boost his chances of playing in the World Twenty20 because Whatmore will have a say in selection matters,” said a PCB official.
Whatmore’s dedication to his responsibilities has also pressed the national selectors to take the tournament seriously and hence they are also seen in the Pindi stadium analyzing the promising talent of the future.
The Sri Lankan born trainer, after a successful completion of his assignment in the Asia Cup, has expressed his contentment over his team’s performance. Although, there was also a speculation that the team, while already having a winning trend, may not adjust easily with the foreign coach, but the impression is broken as both are looking fully focused on the teams overall improvement.
