Dav Whatmore leaves an impression on Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq - Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s newly appointed coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as the middle-order batsman on Friday said that he was extremely impressed by the new coach.
Whatmore, who took charge last month, led Pakistan to their second ever win in the Asia Cup and is now working with the squad in preparations for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, beginning from June.
Misbah, while talking to newsmen in Lahore after a training session with the team said, “The experience with Whatmore is very good. He is dealing professionally and every player is being assessed and the co-ordination is good.”
Pakistan has a history where coaches and national team skippers have failed to go hand in hand and has ultimately resulted in the ouster of one of them, however, according to Misbah, things are different as Whatmore is taking his job professionally and knows what he has to do as a coach.
“Like a good coach whose job is to take care of the practice, how to prepare the team and what are the strengths and weaknesses of the rival team, he is taking care of all such things so it's nice to work with him," said Misbah.
Last year, Pakistan was caught up in a difficult situation when relationship between the then skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193 deteriorated, causing Afridi to resign from his post and retire from international cricket.
Afridi had made it clear that he was not going to play for Pakistan for as long as Waqar was calling the shots.
Consequently, after the departure of Afridi, Waqar also relinquished his post citing personal reasons, forcing the then chief selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohsin-Hasan-Khan-c77595 to be named as the interim coach.
Under Mohsin’s tenure, Pakistan handed a 3-0 whitewash defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, decided otherwise and preferred Whatmore to take charge.
The tour of Sri Lanka will be Whatmore’s first bilateral series as the coach of Pakistan and since having coached http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808.
