Pakistan coach, Dav Whatmore is happy that most of the players selected for the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship are participating in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL), that would help them acclimatize before the mega event kicks off in September.
Talking to reporters at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore, the Pakistan coach said, “There is an opportunity for some of the boys to participate in the SLPL and it's a good thing and I have no problem with it. At least they are playing on ground and in the similar conditions and in those two grounds where we are going to play our matches.”
Pakistan are placed in Group D, where they would battled it out against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
Being runners-up in the inaugural tournament, and then lifting the cup in 2009, followed by securing a spot in the semi-finals, Pakistan have a phenomenal record in this version of the game.
Before this tournament, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE), where the Greens will face the Aussies in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is.
Giving his views on the selection of players for the series in the Arabian Deserts, the coach said, “The selectors have given us a group of players who are competitive enough to give us the right results and win the games."
Nonetheless, eyebrows have been raised back home on the selection of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088, who have had their share of bad luck in this format of the game, and especially Akmal, who has been out of the national team since the ICC World Cup 2011 and has had no match practice, which is a cause of concern for many.
However, according to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials, Akmal and Malik were the best options available for the upcoming tours, where the selectors wanted to see a blend of experience and raw talent in action.
Whatmore insisted that Pakistan would have the advantage of favourable playing conditions in the UAE against the Aussies, but according to him the T20 game is a volatile format where anything can happen.
