Dav Whatmore sets his focus to Asia Cup – Cricket News Update

The newly appointed head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, has set his focus on the upcoming Asia Cup – which will be hosted by Bangladesh. This tournament will be his first assignment as the mentor of the Pakistan team and the coach is looking
forward to it.
The tournament involves four of Asia’s top cricketing nations – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Bangladesh - is being held after a period of nearly two years. Indians are the defending champions, while Lankans are very deadly in sub-continental conditions.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, will have the crowd cheering for them and will have knowledge of the surfaces which may play to their advantage.
Whatmore, the former Australian international, is fully aware that there are no weak oppositions in this tournament. He said, “I know the Asia Cup is an important event with top class teams, even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 can be a tough opponent as they are playing on
their home grounds, so it is one of the many tests that we have and we are looking forward to it.”
Pakistan cricket team has seen a reverse in fortunes in limited over cricket lately. England swept the Men in Green off their feats in the recently concluded ODI series, winning the series by 4-0.
It will take some taking to bring the confidence back for the Green Shirts but Whatmore has claimed that his boys are determined to bounce back after the thumping.
Shedding some light on Pakistan’s dismal performance in the series against England, the Australian born said, “That was little bit not in the script but this team wants to make amends to what happened in the one-day after their brilliant performance in the
Test series.”
Whatmore has so far enjoyed his time with the Pakistan team. The former cricketer sees a lot of talent in the Men in Green’s roster and wants to cordially work with the players for mutual benefits.
He said, “These Pakistan players are wonderful and talented and welcomed me and its pleasure to be with them and we will work together to do well.”
Historically speaking, Asia Cup hasn’t been Pakistan’s platform. The Men in Green have won it only once since its origins in 1984. Whatmore and his boys would want to rewrite history and start the Asia Cup of 2012 on a winning note, when they go up against
the hosts Bangladesh on Sunday, March 11.
