Dave Dombrowski expresses his desire to play Bruce Rondon as closer – MLB Detroit Tigers News

It seems General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland is really impressed with what they have seen from prospect Bruce Rondon in the Minor League. In a telephonic interview on Thursday, Dombrowski again talked about his desire to choose Rondon
for ninth inning chores in the next season.
The lightening armed right handed Rondon is one of the best pitching talents the Tigers have in their farm system. According to sources, he can hit the 100 mph barrier on a regular basis. It will be interesting to see if Rondon can make a successful start
to his Major League Baseball career.
Dombrowski said the Tigers will do everything they can to help the youngster if things do not work out the way he is hoping for. Relief pitchers in the starting rotation including Octavio Dotel, Phil Coke, Al Alburquerque and Joaquin Benoit are all expected
to support Rondon in his early days in Detroit, he added.
"These are all guys who have pitched late in games," Dombrowski said. "We're not anointing him as our closer at this point, but we have strong beliefs that he will do a good job.”
“If you look at Kimbrel (Craig, Braves rookie closer in 2012) and Drew Storen at Washington (43 saves, second year, 2011), those are rookies and young guys who all did well. I'm not afraid to go to camp with Rondon, by any means. I'm not afraid to go to
camp with our bullpen as it's now constructed,” said Dombrowski in an interview.
As of now, the Tigers do not have too much to worry about. With the likes of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister and Rick Porcello, their pitching attack is as good as it can get. Of course, the Tigers will be looking to secure a deal with Anibal
Sanchez this offseason. Sanchez had an excellent time on the mound in 2012 post season as he played a big part in Tigers’ American League Championship winning campaign.
If Sanchez comes back to Detroit, Dombrowski will have the option to trade Porcello. According to sources, multiple teams have called the GM about the status of Porcello.
