Dave Edwards extends contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been handed a boost after Dave Edwards signed a new three-year deal with the English Premier League club.
The midfielder will remain at the club until 2013 and his contract holds the option of an extra year. Edwards was delighted to have extended his stay at the club, which he joined in January 2008 from Luton.
He told the Wolves’ official website that, "I'm delighted it's all done and dusted now. We've been in talks for quite a while and it's great that it's done and I can look forward to the future. It's a great confidence booster to feel wanted at a club. I've
loved every minute of being here and for the gaffer to say he wants to offer me a new contract shows he's got faith in me. Hopefully I can repay that by getting in the team and putting in some performances."
The 24-year-old had two years to go on his previous deal, which he signed in June 2009. Edwards became a key fixture in the side, which finished first in the Football League Championship in the 2008-09 season, scoring three goals and featuring in 44 of the
46 games.
He had been an important part of Mick McCarthy’s side last season before he sustained an ankle injury in the win over Tottenham Hotspur last December. After recovering from the following surgery, he played in the final five matches of the season and aided
the Wolves in retaining their EPL status.
McCarthy was pleased to tie the Wales international down on an extended deal. He told the club’s website that, "He made a major contribution as the team won the Championship title and then showed he could play in the Premier League last season. I'm delighted
he's signed a new long-term contract and look forward to seeing him developing further in the future."
