Dave Herman all set to take on Roy Nelson in a non-title bout on UFC 146 – UFC News
Dave Herman, the rising American heavyweight pugilist, will enter the octagon to take on Roy Nelson, the former IFL Heavyweight Champion, in a non-title bout on the fight card of UFC 146 which will be televised live on May 26, 2012.
The octagon for the epic rather unique UFC event will be set up at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and will be headlined by the much anticipated clash between Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir with former’s UFC heavyweight title
on the line.
The event will be co-headlined by the non-title bout between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva and will also witness two other bouts all hailing from the heavyweight division.
This is the first time that UFC has arranged a fight card with all the bouts pertaining to the heavyweight division. Dave and Roy recently met at a press conference and shared their thoughts about each other.
Dave, 27, has been in a total 24 bouts and boasts an impressive resume with 21 wins. The young American lad has nailed 15 of his opponents by knockout, five by submission, and just one by decision.
Infamous as being the most lethal knockout specialist, Herman has a clear upper hand over his chubby and quite massive opponent, Roy. Nelson, 35, has been in a total 23 mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in 16.
The Las Vegas proud has collected nine of his wins by knockout, five by submission and two by decision. Dave will enter his UFC career’s third bout and is coming from a technical knockout loss to Stefan Struve.
Roy, on the other hand, is going through a pretty tough phase of his career as he has collected just two wins in his last five UFC bouts. The interesting facet is that Roy has nailed Stefan, the man who recently pinned Dave, via technical knockout at UFC
Fight Night 21.
During the recent media interaction, Dave stated, “Roy’s tough, and he always keeps coming. It should be awesome. Anytime I hear he’s fighting, I always watch. I love the hair. Love the belly. I think he’s going the wrong way though, I’d like to see him
get bigger.”
At the same time, Roy, also known as ‘Big Country’, on hearing Herman’s remarks smiled and commented, “He’s a realistic threat. He’s the white version of Jon Jones, tall, lanky, unorthodox. You don’t know what you’re going to expect. At one time, he liked
to party. So, you know, just like Jon Jones.”
The bout will be an interesting one as Dave has the agility and lean body that will aid him in attacking and evading Roy’s strikes. The odds, at the moment, are in favour of Dave who possesses a better knockout ratio than Nelson.
