Dave Rennie lists Chiefs 31-man squad for 2012 Super Rugby competition – Super Rugby News
Hamilton based New Zealand Super Rugby franchise, Chiefs, has listed their squad for the 2012 Super Rugby competition. Super Rugby is the southern hemisphere’s largest rugby union competition
organised by South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby (SANZAR).
Chiefs’ announced their 31-man squad for their 2012 Super Rugby campaign on Tuesday, November 1. The roster consists of 18 forwards and 13 backs players.
Chiefs head coach, Dave Rennie, has expressed his delight with the final outlook of his squad. Club 2012 Super Rugby season received a major boost following the signing of the All Blacks international
backs player, Sonny Bill Williams.
Rennie has expressed his satisfaction with the overall composition of the squad. He said, “It is a good mixture of young exciting talent and key experienced players which should allow us to
play a highly appealing style of rugby.”
Following the victory of All Blacks in the 2011 Rugby World Cup tournament the whole atmosphere is different in New Zealand.
Rennie added, “It is an exciting time for New Zealand rugby and we are looking forward to being part of that as we kick off our campaign. We know that public support is a vital ingredient of
our season so we are really looking forward to the people of the whole region getting behind the team and coming to the games.”
Rennie has directed all players named in the squad except the All Blacks international player to assemble on November 21.
Wayne Smith, Tom Coventry and Andrew Strawbridge will assist Rennie as assistant coaches as Chiefs look forward to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
Chiefs finished at the 10th position in the 2011 Super Rugby competition with 40 points. They won only six of their 16 matches in the season and ended on the losing side on nine
occasions.
