Dave Whatmore targeting Virender Sehwag– Kolkata Knight Riders v Delhi Daredevils: IPL-4
Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders (KKR) Coach Dave Whatmore, has been plotting the dismissal of the explosive Daredevil batsman, Virender Sehwag, when Kolkata faces Delhi in the IPL match at Ferozeshah Kotla stadium on April 28, 2011.
Sehwag bolstered the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in piling up a mammoth total of 231 runs in their last match against the Kings XI Punjab. In reply, Punjab stuttered to 201 and defeated them and lost the game by 29 runs.
The highlight of the match was Virender Sehwag’s 77 off 35 balls, which included 4 mighty sixes.
While praising the right-hander, Dave Whatmore said, “Like Gayle, Sehwag and Warner are very good players. There are actually no easy games in this tournament and with Delhi danger begins at the top”.
Delhi Daredevils have a dangerous opening pair comprising Sehwag and Warner, both can be truly explosive and as the last match saw, can hammer the opposition attack.
Sehwag is joined by Aussie powerhouse David Warner in the opening slot. Both players have the uncanny ability to destroy opening attacks with ease; a notion proven against the Kings XI Punjab with an opening partnership of 146 runs in 70 balls.
Daredevils match against Kings XI Punjab showcased their explosive batting, as their opening batsmen provided them a perfect start of 146 runs in 70 balls.
Nevertheless, Delhi has struggled with the last two matches. They lost against Deccan Chargers by 16 runs but held their nerves against Pune Warriors to win by 3 wickets.
Whatmore’s KKR on the other hand haven’t fared too well either and have lost a few important matches against the Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Whatmore expressed his desire of winning against the Daredevils when he said, “We will do our best to win the game and get back the momentum. We have in our side Delhi (Ranji) players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and Rajat Bhatia who can give us some vital inputs”.
Gautam Gambhir, the KKR skipper scored a blistering 75 off 44 balls against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals.
Whatmore further said that the Kotla wicket was batting friendly. He highlighted the fact that more than 400 runs were scored in 40 overs at the historic venue.
The Australian, who helped Sri Lanka win the 1996 World Cup, further highlighted the point that KKR bowlers have done well in the contest and their last two losses were close matches.
Though Sehwag played a superb knock against the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833, he was dismissed while trying to clear the boundary and ended up being caught at deep mid wicket region.
Whatmore would be keeping Sehwag’s dismissal in his mind and will be goading his bowlers to try and dismiss Sehwag in the early overs of the innings.
If KKR manage to dismiss Sehwag in the early phase then they would have a good opportunity of halting the scoring rate in the opening overs.
