Daveron eyes to make it 4 of 4 this season in the First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on 8 October
The 6-year-old Team Valor International owned mare, Daveron is in peak form among the overflowing field of the Grade 1, $350,000 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on 8 October, 2011.
The 14th running of the one mile turf race ranks among the deepest in the filly and mare turf division this year. It adds intrigue to the race, as mares like Daveron are among the mix of which will possibly go up to 12 fillies and mares.
Graham Motion trained daughter of Black Slam Bellamy, out of Darwina by Acatenango, Daveron is sitting pretty with 4 stakes' wins out of her last 5 starts, and she is on a 3 race winning streak with a perfect 2011 season so far.
Starting on 7 May, 2011, in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park over a distance of 1 1/16 miles under jockey Eddie Castro, as the pair topped the distance in 1 minute and 42.99 seconds.
Graham Motion then sent Daveron to Parx Racing to participate in the Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap over her new distance of 2011, 1 1/16 miles on grass, and she obliged by acing the field and hitting the wire in 1 minute and 43.34 seconds.
The Spa meet was up for Daveron, and she nailed the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes and took down her closest rivals Tapitsfly and Romacaca, who finished second and third respectively.
The race was held at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles on turf, and the winning tome for the race was 1 minute and 40.09 seconds.
The 6-year-old mare trained by Chris Block, Never Retreat has also entered the Grade 1 First Lady field, and the perennial overachiever is coming off a win in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes on 18 September, 2011, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles at Woodbine.
The daughter of Smart Strike, out of Lisieux by Steady Growth, Never Retreat has had a massive 2011 season with 3 wins out of 9 starts and 3 finishes on the board this season.
