Daveron will start her final campaign with a run in the Marshua’s River Stakes
The German bred daughter of Black Sam Bellamy, out of mare Darwinia by Acatenango, newly turned 7-year-old mare, Daveron, will launch her 2012 campaign, which could be her final season, when she goes on to headline a full field of 14 in the highly competitive 1 1/16 miles long $100,000 Marshua’s River Stakes at Gulfstream Park’s turf course on 7 January, 2012, a race that is exclusive for 4-year-old and above fillies and mares.
Trained by Graham Motion for Team Valor International, Daveron is coming off her best season yet, racing four times at four different race tracks, and conjured up a 3-race winning streak, with a third place finish in her final race of the 2011 campaign, the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes to winner, Never Retreat.
“The owners have decided to keep her in training, at least for the time being,” Motion said. “There’s a good shot they’ll breed her this year, considering she’s seven, but there’s no reason why she couldn’t run a time or two first, even if that’s the case.”
Exclusively run on turf all season, Daveron savoured the 1 1/16 mile distance to start with, a distance that she had raced on less than any other distance, but she loved every minute of it.
Daveron opened her 2011 campaign with a win in the Grade 3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont Park on 7 May, 2011, and went on to defeat the likes of Gitchee Goomie in second, and Bet on the Blue in third, while covering the 1 1/16 mile distance on turf in 1 minute and 42.99 seconds.
Her next assignment was at Parx Racing to participate in the Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap, and under E Castro, she bolted to the wire in no time, posting her second win in a row with a winning time of 1 minute and 43.34 seconds, on 4 July, 2011.
Daveron struck a hat-trick in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011, and downed Tapitsfly in second, and Romacaca in third.
She started her career in her native Germany before being shipped to the United States, back in 2010. Her lone setback last year came in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes, which dashed her hopes to go undefeated throughout the season.
