Davey Johnson optimistic of return in 2013 for Washington Nationals - MLB Update
Davey Johnson is looking forward to a return to Washington Nationals in 2013 Major League regular season. He is waiting a call from the team ownership with regard to the announcement of a contract with him for the next season.
During the season, he had talks with General Manager Mike Rizzo on this issue but it remains to be seen whether the ownership of the club is willing to keep Johnson in the dugout or not.
Johnson led the Nationals to winning the Division title this season, something they have not attained in years.
Apart from this, he is credited with helping some of the young players in the team to improve and play at their potential.
Under his supervision, emerging batters like Ian Desmond and Bryce Harper showed credentials of becoming the most reliable player of the club one day.
While the resources were available with the Nationals, without an inspirational leader an appropriate use of them will not have been made.
Johnson developed right combination of players for different games and prepared contingency plans whenever they were required.
The bottom-line is that he has been the part and parcel of the success that the Nationals enjoyed in the season.
It will not be a surprise if the Nationals retain him for the next year on the premise that if he can take them into the playoffs, he can help them win the World Series as well.
Johnson is looking forward to be handed a contract in November from the Nationals’ ownership. He believes that he has not accomplished what he wanted yet. He is hopeful of achieving his objective with regard to the Nationals next year if he is granted the
contract.
"Is there some unfinished business? Yeah, there's some unfinished business. But that'll be up to ownership. That ball is in their court. I don't have a bad feeling, and I don't mind waiting until November like last year," he said.
Johnson knows all the ins and outs of the Nationals at the moment and if he stays in there he can more likely produce better results.
It will be interesting to see what kind of declaration the Nationals make about him in November.
