Davey Johnson’s post-season plan unchanged even as Edwin Jackson and Ross Detwiler struggle-MLB
The hopelessly poor shows by Edwin Jackson and Ross Detwiler on the mound have not forced Washington Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson to alter his rotation plan for the post-season. Johnson considers both of them as important part of their campaign in the
playoffs.
He will use them in the matches depending upon the opposition they come across.
He will deploy them keeping in view the weak-areas of the line-up they will be throwing against.
Nationals have been dominant throughout the season. They remained on top of the table and hardly allowed any team to claim their position. With the way they carried their hegemony, it will be shocking for the fans if they fail to attain heights in the season
from now onward.
In almost every area of the play, they have in-form players. Their offence hosts the likes of Jayson Werth and Michael Morse. Along with them, Ryan Zimmerman is capable of striking massive home-runs and helping the team win from the most hopeless of the
situations.
Only area they can be concerned about is their pitching staff. While their rotation was among the best ones in the National League, ever since the shut-down of Stephen Strasburg it has downgraded.
Johnson will be hoping that his starters stay afloat and put up splendid shows in the playoffs. As far as the relievers are concerned, the Nationals can be extremely satisfied.
The decision of employing Detwiler and Jackson can be dicey given the competitiveness of the line-ups they are going to face ahead.
“I’m going to have another start this year,” Detwiler said. “And it’s going to be a whole lot better than this one.”
Johnson, while defending his plan has stated that these two pitchers have been incredible in the season. He has complete faith in their ability to shine in the matches.
“It’s not really the time I want to see it,” Johnson said. “But they’ve been so good, I’m not worried about it. I don’t have a doghouse.”
The Nationals cannot afford to enter the post-season with demoralised feelings that can result from their recent defeats.
They will be trying their best to get rid of the jinx of failures and play extremely well in the playoffs.
