David Barnes scheduled to take on Vivian Harris in a non-title bout – Boxing news
David Barnes, the former British light welterweight champion, is scheduled to take on Vivian Harris, the former WBA World light welterweight champion, in an eight round bout on March 11, 2012.
The two men will collide in an eight-round bout and the ring will be stretched at De Veres Whites Hotel situated in Bolton, Lancashire, United Kingdom. The announcement was made by David Coldwell, promoter and organiser of the event.
The event originally included the Italian Giuseppe Lauri who later on pulled himself out of the engagement due to inappropriate health conditions. David, 31, has been in a total 28 bouts and has lost just two. He has collected 11 of his total wins by knockout
and is famous for his resilience.
Barnes has collected many welterweight and light welterweight titles mostly licensed by British Boxing Board of Control. He is considered as one of the best welterweight pugilists in Britain and has also held the British welterweight and light welterweight
titles.
Vivian, infamous as the ‘Vicious’, overshadows his Sunday night opponent heavily by experience and stats. He has entered the ring a total 38 times. Harris, 33, has collected 29 wins and 19 of them by knockout. As his nickname portrays his game plan, the
Guyana-hailing brawler is a powerful pounder who heavily pummels his opponent without mercy and strives to collect a swift, clean win.
Both pugilists were happy at the engagement and aired comments of praise and respect for each other. Barnes, when asked about his upcoming engagement said, “This fight is much bigger now. It's a great chance to show people what I can do against a much bigger
name but I've still gotta go in and do the job properly.”
David said that he is excited at the engagement since it will give him an ample chance to prove the world that he is the best welterweight and can nail each and every opponent in the division.
Vivian excited at the bout remarked, “I love fighting in England and I am proud to share my skills with the British people so they will believe in me and support me on the way to the welterweight crown. People have doubted me although my manager Thomas Hickey
has believed in and supported me as I look to win a new title in this competitive division.”
Thomas Hickey, Promoter Vivian, also reiterated that this is a golden chance for his client to re-emerge and win not only the welterweight title but also enter the heavyweight division. He added that Vivian’s credibility is evident from David’s trust in
his abilities and talent.
