David Barron’s charge Pearl Secret to compete at Sandown while Hitchens heads to Ascot
Trainer David Barron will be testing his chances and send his accomplished runner, Pearl Secret, to compete at Sandown on 16th June, 2012, in the Scurry Stakes.
While discussing future plans for the three-year-old colt, the trainer stated that he will not be going to Royal Ascot yet, as he needs to gain experience before competing against some of the best runners.
He stated:
"He's fine and he could go to Sandown in the middle of June for a Listed race. It's not definite yet, but that is a race I have at the back of my mind and that's the way we're aiming at present."
He further went on to say: "He won't be going to Royal Ascot. He's doing his job nicely at the moment and I'd like him to get a bit more knowledge before we throw him in against the big boys."
The son of Compton Place, out of mare Our Little Secret, impressed his connections with his brilliant maiden.
Raced as joint favourite with a 9-2 chance, defeated Lupo D'Oro by 1 ½ lengths in the Piper-Heidsieck National Racecourse Catering Awards E B F Maiden Stakes at York on 7th October, 2011.
The Pearl Bloodstock Ltd owned runner made a great comeback this season, claiming a victory at Doncaster in the Kat Communications Knowledge About Telecoms Handicap.
Pearl Secret raced as a favourite with 8-13 chance and defeated Lupo D'Oro for a second time, this time by a margin of 4 ½ lengths, whereas the third place was secured by the Tim Easterby trained, See Clearly.
The chestnut colt flourished at York again on 17th May, 2012, where he banked on his status as race favourite and stole the race from, Ponty Acclaim, by 1 ½ length in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing EBF
Sprint Conditions Stakes.
David Barron’s more experienced charge, Hitchens, will compete at Royal Ascot based on his performance at Meydan, where he triumphed in the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint Sponsored By Gulf News in February, 2012, over Krypton Factor by a short-head.
The trainer said:
"At the moment we're looking towards Ascot. Something has to finish second to Black Caviar!"
