David Beckham: There’s only one team in Manchester – Major League Soccer news
Former Manchester United midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818 in the World Football Challenge this Saturday, 23 July at The Home Depot Center.
Although he could not get the chance to represent the Galaxy against United, he will be representing Major League Soccer on July 27 in the Manchester United-MLS All-Stars fixture at Red Bull Arena.
The player tried to divert the questions regarding the rivalry between the two Manchester-based clubs.
“Not really,” he said. “It’s just a small game, but I’m looking forward to the All-Star Game against the best team in Manchester and the best team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.”
However, when asked whether the recent achievements have impressed him, the winger fired back, “No, because it’s Man. City. At the end of the day, I’m a Man United fan.”
Beckham stayed over a decade with the Red Devils at Old Trafford under the supervision of Sir Alex Ferguson and had the opportunity to relish the derby battles.
Even though City have recently won the FA Cup and Carling Cup ties against United in recent times, they played second fiddle to United for over half a century, Beckham said.
“Manchester United’s got the silverware over the last 20 years and I’m a Man United fan and I’m always going to say that,” the English veteran told the media. “There’s only one team in Manchester.”
There is little doubt as to what team Beckham was referring to in his comment, but the Citizens have improved drastically of late, even winning a UEFA Champions League berth for the upcoming season after finishing third in the season ended.
Beckham, though, believes most of the recent success has been bought, rather earned.
“They’re bringing in good players and they’ve got strong people with a lot of money behind them as a club,” he said.
Since 1992, the Citizens have spent significant time in the second tier of the English football system while United were busy winning Premier League titles – 11 to be exact.
However, despite the old memories, the Galaxy’s designated player welcomed the English opposition to HDC this weekend.
