David Beckham arrives at the Los Angeles Galaxy for the 2011 Major League Soccer season
David Beckham joined the training session of the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday, after finishing off an extended training camp with Tottenham. Earlier, the Galaxy wanted Beckham to play a full season for which they denied his transfer on loan to Tottenham
and restricted him to practice only.
Beckham was unfortunate to miss most of the Major League Soccer season and the FIFA World Cup 2010 due to a torn left achilles’ tendon when he was on loan with AC Milan. After a six month absence, he managed to play one regular game to help the Galaxy reach
the Western Conference Championship. Beckham decided to regain shape and rhythm through on-field practice, instead of having a long rest. The Galaxy chief executive Tim Leiweke and the coach Bruce Arena honoured Beckham’s longing to stay at Tottenham to get
his fitness back. He assured his commitment and is eager to feature the Galaxy in MLS season opener on March 15.
“My main objective was to get fit for the Galaxy and the Major League Soccer season. My objective was not to play for a Premiership team, Even if I would have been on loan and even if I would have played the games, this was the time I was always going to
come back. That was agreed and nothing was going to change,” Beckham said after his first full training session.
Though Beckham had not played a single pre-season game, but he looked fit and promising on the first day of training. In his two weeks long stay at Tottenham, he did not play any club games, but decided that training with one of the top four teams of the
English Premier League would have helped him better.
This season will complete his five-year deal of 32.5-million-dollars and the 35-years-old star will be keen to make a memorable impact and lead the Galaxy to a win. Beckham understands the importance of this stage in his career and challenges to cope. The
Galaxy, last year lost in the conference finals and are yet to win the MLS cup in the four years with Beckham. This will definitely be his objective considering the final year of the job here.
“All we care about is that when he is here, he wants to be here and he wants to play and today he showed that he wants to be here and he wants to help this team. You can tell the guys are excited, and he is excited to be back,”
Landon Donovan said.
Speculations are rising that this could be Beckham’s last year with the club and he will resume his journey with Tottenham. However, it is yet to be decided that who pays his worth and where the star will prefer to spend the ending days of his magnificent
career.
