David Beckham says AC Milan return is unlikely
LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham has revealed that the likelihood of him making a return to Italian giants AC Milan on loan is very slim.
The 35-year-old has twice made the temporary switch to the Serie A outfit in a bid to prolong his England career. He first made the move in 2009 and repeated the loan deal this year, but that spell was cut short when he tore his left Achilles tendon and
was ruled out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Beckham, who only just made a return to action from the injury on September 11, has now said that a return to Milan is unlikely.
He was asked by a reporter if he would move back to Italy, and he responded, reporting to FIFA’s official website that, "I don’t think so. I’ll never say never, but after my injury I need to really focus on getting my full fitness back. Physically, I need
to get myself back in order after a very long time out of the game. I can’t say for sure, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see."
Meanwhile, despite England manager Fabio Capello seemingly ruling out a return for Beckham to the national team (having ruled him to be too old), the player — who has received 115 caps — still holds aspirations of again playing for his country.
"I want to continue to be available to play for England. That’s all I can do. I am passionate about playing for my country and I have been for 15 years now. Ever since I was a little kid, all I ever wanted to do was to play for my country. Whether the road
is over or not, I don’t really know, but I will continue to work hard to get my fitness right because that’s the important bit at the moment. Once I’ve done that, we’ll know more."
