David Beckham shortlisted for England Olympics team
David Beckham, one of England’s star player, has recently received a letter from the Football Association that asks for his availability for participating in the London 2012 Olympic Games representing England.
Beckham had been having a hard time in the past few months convincing the world of his performance and his ability to still play football and represent his country. The recent selection for the Olympic Games has given the former football captain a chance
to renew his glory before he goes into retirement. The upcoming Olympics may very well be the last one that the star athlete can take part in.
However, this selection is not the final selection for the GB Team for the Olympic Games and Beckham has to prove his merit among the top players to finally make it to the Olympic football squad. The team manager of the national football team for England,
Stuart Pearce, will do the final selection for the Great Britain’s Olympic football team.
The famous coach recently came in the limelight after he agreed to the decision of the London Olympic organisers of not letting the athletes that are participating in the Euro 2012 tournament be a part of the Olympic Games. The Euro 2012 tournament will
be staged early next year in both Poland as well as Ukraine.
Pearce made the following comments about the selection for the football team of Great Britain at the Olympics, “The long list is quite substantial. Players will have to sign a form putting themselves forward for selection so they will know themselves - and
the clubs will be aware very shortly - of who is on that list of players.”
Beckham, on the other hand, expressed himself in the following words, “I would love to play. I've already said that in the past and I continue to say that. People either assume I want to play or I want to coach or be part of the management team. But I don't
want to coach. I don't want to be part of the management team.”
Whether the star athlete will be selected for playing at the Olympics, only time will tell.
