David Beckham still passionate about representing England
He might be the only man to believe it, but LA Galaxy captain David Beckham said he thinks he still has a chance to regain his place for England, while confirming that he will see out his contract with
the Major League Soccer team.
Beckham, the English team's most capped outfield player with 115 appearances to his name, was recalled to the national team by Fabio Capello in 2008, and only an Achilles injury kept him out of the recent
World Cup.
In England's opening Euro 2012 qualifiers, Capello has excluded Beckham from the team as part of the FA's demand to build a new and younger English team. Despite his absence from the qualifiers, Beckham
told Sky Sports News that he is not being overlooked by Capello.
"He is a fair man," the 35-year-old said. "I think if he believes that any player that can play for England is playing well, is passionate about the game and is in good form, then it gives everyone a chance.
Everyone knows how passionate I have been about playing for my country over the years so, yeah, I would love to continue to play.
Another loan deal on the cards?
During the past two seasons, Beckham has been loaned to Italian side AC Milan during the off-season of the MLS. For the start of next year, Beckham has been linked with a similar loan deal to West Ham
United in the Premier League.
And following Sven-Goran Eriksson's arrival at Championship side Leicester City, the midfielder has also been subject to speculation that he would end up playing for his former England manager. Eriksson
himself has said that such a deal is unlikely.
Despite the rumours, Beckham said he will see out his contract with LA Galaxy.
"Right now, I'm enjoying playing for the Galaxy. I have enjoyed the four years that I've been here and I have a year left," said Beckham, who did not mention whether another loan deal is in the works for
the early months of 2011. "Who knows what is going to happen after that but I'm definitely going to be here for the rest of my contract."
