Leiweke however, denied rumours that the MLS side had already made an offer for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international in the winter transfer window. Though, the LA Galaxy chief did confirm his side were currently considering options for future Designated Player spots.
Each MLS club has the choice of signing at the maximum three Designated Players, who are otherwise not included in the wage structure that is operated in the American League. It is for one such position that LA Galaxy are apparently interested in Lampard.
The Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move away after being dropped from the first team by new manager Andre Villas-Boas. Lampard is known to be extremely upset and is reportedly looking for a move away to another side where he will be guaranteed
regular football.
That’s where LA Galaxy come in, the MLS side plan to bring in Lampard as a DP with the intent of the player retiring at his new club. The club’s chief confirmed his was an admirer of Lampard and that they were targeting him as they had David Beckham.
Leiweke said in an interview:
“I am a fan of Frank's, I think he is a great player. When I think of Chelsea, I think of Frank Lampard.
"You should ask him, it took us two years to get http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 here the first time. We are working on the next DP.
We are going to continue to work on the next DP and there are about half-a-dozen guys we have a good relationship with but first we have to have a slot and we don't have a slot.”
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 was supportive of Lampard’s arrival at LA Galaxy, claiming the midfielder would fit in well at the MLS side.
Beckham said while speaking to reporters:
“If he does decide to walk away from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, then of course; which team would not want him?
The owners are very persuasive, so of course there is a chance.”
