David Beckham’s Contract extension will be based on his performances on field, not his celebrity status
Recently, a press conference was held with Mark Abbott, President of MLS (Major League Soccer), where he commented on the English football legend, David Beckham, by assuring the press that the decision of whether the player is to be presented with an extension in his contract will be solely based on his performances with Los Angeles Galaxy.
Mark Abbott told the media that the 35-year-old's contract will be extended, solely, based on his football performance rather than his celebrity status.
Despite Beckham's status as the most valuable and marketable athlete in the world, he will have to ensure his place in the LA Galaxy squad through his performance on the field
According to his contract, this is Beckham’s last year with the American club. Beckham was signed from the La Liga giants, Real Madrid, in 2007 for thirty two and a half million dollars and presented a contract for a period of five years.
The MLS president commented on Becks, saying "there have been so many benefits to the Major League Soccer with the coming of David Beckham.”
The former Red Devils’ legend and Santiago Bernabeu resident will officially be turning thirty six on the 2nd of May, 2011, and has been receiving a lot of criticism from his current club recently.
The player has spent two loan spells with AC Milan. The first was in 2009 when he made eighteen appearances with the club to score twice and second in 2010 when he stepped on to the football field for the Italians eleven times.
Beckham also missed a large part of the 2010 season as he tore an achilles tendon in his time playing with the Italians. Becks also tried to move to the Lily Whites but the deal did not come through.
