David Boon, the former Australian opener who has enjoyed a long on-field and off-field cricket career, is ready to make his debut as an umpire of the International Cricket Council’s Emirates Elite Panel in the upcoming bilateral series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and
Zimbabwe. He is rejoiced to have gained a new role and considers himself fortunate.
Boon was appointed as an umpire by the ICC a couple of months back. He was working as the National Selector of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The Zimbabwe-Pakistan series, which is scheduled to start from September 1st, will be Boon’s first international assignment. The series includes a one-off Test match, 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is.
Talking to the media today, Boon said, “I am really looking forward to visiting Zimbabwe for my first assignment as an elite panelist. I am very fortunate to have been close to cricket all my life and I am sure this phase in my new cricketing life will be
as enjoyable as the other experiences.”
He further told, “I also can't wait and make my debut as an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 official at the highest level in a country where I visited as a young player for an Australian under-25 side and on another occasion as captain of Tasmania.”
After winding up his international career in 1996, Boon entered managerial ranks. He worked as the General Manager of Cricket with Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854, many years before joining his home team as a selector.
Boon made both ODI and Test debuts in 1984 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. During his 12-year-old career, he played 107 Tests and 181 ODIs, scoring 7422 and 5964 runs respectively in the two formats. He performed a key role in Team Australia’s resurgence in 1980s.
Apart from it, Boon also played 350 First-Class and 313 List A matches.
The 50-year-old, who has replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-George-Hurst-c42680 in the Emirates Elite Panel, is determined to work with honesty and sincerity for years to come.
Some analysts argue that Boon is lucky to have pull out of the CA honourably before the recent debacle that has left the entire selection committee in lurch.
