David Brailsford and Bradley Wiggins and Storey knighted in New Year Honours list
Bradley Wiggins and David Brailsford have been awarded knighthood for their services to British sport throughout the 2012 season along with the Paralympian Sarah Storey after she won four gold medals in road race events.
David Brailsford coached the British National Team throughout the season and truly deserves the credit for the team’s superb performance at the 2012 Olympic Games.
The British side took full advantage of the home ground and filled its bag with several top performances during the mega event.
Great Britain celebrates a positive sporting year bagging as many as 78 different titles throughout the season.
However, the biggest victory for the British sports came through the mighty legs of Bradley Wiggins as he became the first ever British cyclist to claim an overall victory at the Tour de France 2012.
The Brit rode brilliantly throughout the season, securing a convincing victory at this year’s Tour de France after he was given ample support by the British side, Team Sky.
His teammate Christopher Froome finished second with Vincenzo Nibali finishing at the third position after the most prestigious cycling race of the season.
“It’s an incredible honour and an incredible thing to have,” Wiggins noted as reported earlier by file:///D:/2012/Cycling/December%202012/enewsportal.com.
“[Sir] is not something I would like to use in daily life because it would still sit uneasy with me”.
“The only thing I have insisted on is that my wife and children call me Sir at home but other than that everyone is free to call me Bradley!"
“The goal this year was to win the Tour de France and the Olympic Games and we did that. I think it’s everything else that has happened since then”.
It was none other than Brailsford whose hard work really made it happen as he coached Team Sky during the season and helped the team in achieving the top overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings.
Both Wiggins and Brailsford have now become Sir Bradley Wiggins and Sir David Brailsford after they proved to be the best sports ambassadors for their country in all through the 2012 season.
