David Brailsford appreciated Mark Cavendish’s effort at the Tour de France 2012
While Team Sky is busy singing Bradley Wiggins and Christopher Froome songs, Mark Cavendish is busy proving his skills at the point’s classifications of the Tour de France 2012.
The 2011 winner of the green jersey is not far away from bagging his second consecutive victory at the point classifications of the Tour.
Team General Manager, David Brailsford appreciated Mark’s performance especially after his storming victory during the stage 18 of the race.
The Manxman currently occupies the fourth overall position after the stage 18 point’s classifications with a total number of 175 UCI points to his credit.
Peter Sagan of Team Liquigas-Cannondale holds the first spot with 386 UCI points with Andre Greipel (264 points) of Team Lotto Belisol and Mathew Harley Goss (238 points) of Team Orica GreenEdge holding the second and the third positions.
Brailsford appreciated Mark’s performance during the stage 18 of the race, "That wasn't easy, it was a very tough final and climbs at the end were hard," he told Cyclingnews.
“Mark stayed right at the front all day and was never in any trouble. I think it shows what great shape he is now in”.
“He's worked incredibly hard to get into that shape and I think it was a fantastic opportunity for the team to reward him for the teamwork that he has shown himself in the last two-and-a-half weeks”.
"It's very pleasing. When he goes like that he demonstrates that he's in a class of his own".
The 27-year-old is having a terrific season and has filled his bag with numerous victories in the first half of the 2012 season.
He bagged stages at the Tour of Qatar, Tirreno-Adriatico, Giro d’Italia, Ster ZLM Toer and the Tour de France.
