David Byrne ready for a show at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
Essex native David Byrne flew to New Orleans to take part in the $6.4 million event, Zurich Classic of New Orleans, scheduled from April 26 to 29, 2012.
Byrne won last season’s Big Break on the Golf Channel, and is ready to pocket another prize after he tees off at the TPC Louisiana.
He will be featuring in the Big Easy if he succeeds in making the cut this year in New Orleans.
Apart from that, he is confident to make a good run in the tournament, as he feels that the course really suits his style and technique of playing.
He visited the area last week to play a couple of practice rounds in order to get a complete overview of the course.
“It’ll be exciting and interesting to see how they changed the golf course from when I last saw it,” the 24-year-old Byrne said of the TPC Louisiana.
“I like the golf course,” he said. “It’s kind of funny though, I’ve worked on hitting a cut for the last year and a half and, at this golf course, and you have to hit a draw,” he added
According to him, his driver is the major concern that is bothering him while entering the elite field of the Zurich Classic.
He said that he has not been able to play to his best for the past few months because of the wrong driver in his bag.
“I don’t think I’ve found the right shaft for me yet,” he said. “I found a three wood that I fell in love with but my driver has been a little inconsistent”.
He also told that Luke LeFave will be caddying him in the tournament that is set to feature a total of 13 major winners and eight past winners jointly.
“He’s the opposite of me,” Byrne said of LeFave. “He’s very relaxed and he doesn’t get too excited”.
The defending champion Bubba Watson has also confirmed to fly to New Orleans to take part in the tournament, where he is a favourite to win the tournament for the second time in a row.
