David Charles excels in Men’s 200 yard butterfly heats – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
David Charles of Nashville Aquatics excelled in the qualification rounds of Men’s 200 yard butterfly on third day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Saturday, December 8.
The 17-year-old Charles faced tough competition from Nickolaus Orf of Parkway Swim Club from the start but with his alluring efforts in the final round, he managed to escape him over the wall for first position.
With his exceptional efforts in the final lap of the race, Charles remained just a stroke ahead of his toughest contender as he reached the wall for the title with a timing of 1 minute and 47.41 seconds.
His exhausting pace remained 0.42 seconds ahead of Orf, who appeared on the finishing blockade as second fastest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 47.83 seconds.
Orf was chased by James Yoder of Stingrays-GA, who stayed 0.31 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 48.14 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Joshua Quallen of Dayton Raiders-O, who was 0.28 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 48.42 seconds.
Similarly, Quallen remained 0.19 seconds ahead of Pace Clark of Memphis Tiger Swim Club, who remained prominent for fifth position of the event and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 48.61 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was secured by Joseph Carbone of Unattached-IA, who was 0.13 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 49.69 seconds.
Afterwards, the audience witnessed exhausting effort of Joseph Schooling of Bolles School Sharks and Robert McHugh of Baylor Swim Club, who engaged each other in a head-to-head battle for seventh place.
They stayed 0.13 seconds away from Carbone and surfaced on the finishing end as seventh fastest swimmers by reporting a same time of 1 minute and 49.82 seconds.
Furthermore, Charles was extremely pleased with his notable form in the race and stressed that he would struggle hard to please his fans by accomplishing the same in playoff.
