David Coulthard and Niki Lauda comment on McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton’s aggression – Formula 1
Former Formula 1 drivers have commented on Lewis Hamilton’s driving aggression in the 2011 season so far.
Talking about Hamilton’s recent contacts in the Montreal race along with some crashes in the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2011, David Coulthard has stated that McLaren have failed to give Hamilton a winning car due to which he is frustrated.
On the other hand, three-time Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda thinks that Hamilton’s aggression can get someone killed in the process for which the International Automobile Federation should penalise him right away.
Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button took an astonishing victory in the Montreal race beating the defending world champion in the final lap. Yet Hamilton is the driver discussed the most among Formula 1 analysts and stewards.
Coulthard stated, “Lewis has so many fans around the world. This is just a phase he's going through. He believes he's the best driver in the world, but right now McLaren are not able to give him a winning car, and he's getting frustrated.”
He added that the Brit wants to win races and being aggressive is his ability but on a few occasions in the last two races, he was too aggressive.
Meanwhile, Lauda says, “He is completely mad. If [governing body] the FIA does not punish him, I do not understand the world anymore. At some point there has to be an end to all the jokes. You cannot drive like this as it will result in someone getting killed.”
Hamilton has already been to the stewards five times in the first six races of the 2011 season and has been penalised on quite a few occasions. Yet again in Montreal, where the rain made it difficult to overtake, the Brit was still trying to make some moves.
Hamilton only drove for eight laps, four of which were behind safety car, and collided with two drivers.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what the Formula 1 world decides about the talented Brit as the next race is after two weeks time in Valencia on June 26, 2011.
