David Coulthard decides to take retirement from DTM – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, David Coulthard has decided to take retirement from DTM at the end of the final round which is to be held at Hockenheim.
Coulthard has been racing in the German touring car series for the last three years and now he has announced that he is going to say goodbye to the sport at the end of the season.
Moreover, he said that he is aiming to perform well in the last race of the year. Besides, he said that after his retirement, he has planned to do some off-track businesses and will spend time with his family.
“I am looking forward to the final race of what has been an exciting season in the DTM,” he said. “The weekend will be my final opportunity to compete at this level as I will stop racing in the DTM to concentrate on my developing off-track businesses and
of course my family.”
In addition, he said that he has really enjoyed racing in DTM where he has competed with some of the most talented drivers. Furthermore, he wished the organisers and competitors of the series all the best for the future.
“I have enjoyed the last three years and I wish the organizers and competitors in DTM continued growth and success with the championship,” the British driver added.
At present, he is standing at 15th place in the rankings with 14 points and his best result in the season so far includes his fifth place finish.
The British driver took retirement from F1 back in 2008 after racing for 15 years with McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Williams. Even though, he has been known as a remarkable driver, however, he could not win any championship.
Furthermore, he has claimed 13 grands prix victories in his F1 career and has always been very motivated and confident.
Currently, he is also working as an F1 commentator and takes a lot of interest in the sport. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the final race of his career at Hockenheim and what does he do after his retirement.
