David Coulthard impressed by Michael Schumacher’s performance at Monza – Formula 1 news
Former McLaren driver David Coulthard has recently stated that he was quite impressed by Michael Schumacher’s performance at the 2011 Italian Grand Prix which took place at Monza this past weekend.
It was believed since the beginning of the weekend that Mercedes GP would be very strong at the high-speed track since it has a number of long straights which is one of the strengths of the team.
“My view, based on the images we saw, was that his behaviour was right on the limit but arguably not over it. It was classic Michael; he knew exactly what he was doing and took it as far as he could,” Coulthard wrote in his Telegraph Sport
column.
McLaren and Ferrari were expected to be very strong as well but it seems that they did not come up with the best setups and combination in order to make the most of Monza.
Lewis Hamilton went through a tough time in holding back Michael Schumacher as a result of which McLaren claims that the seven-time world champion was pushing the rules over the limit while Coulthard claims that everything the 42-year-old did was legal and
justified.
“Others feel differently, of course. Jenson (who had a prime view and who knows better than I what is agreed upon in the drivers' briefings these days) felt Michael had consistently made more than one change of direction. Perhaps he is right,” said Coulthard.
Other than that, he added that Formula 1 should try to introduce some more technology in order to understand and enforce the rules in a better way so that these sorts of issues do not take place at all or get resolved as easily and efficiently as possible.
Red Bull Racing team on the other hand was just outstanding as Sebastian Vettel secured the pole position before winning the race and probably closing the championship race for everyone. He is now more than 100 points ahead of all his rivals with just 6
races remaining in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
