David Coulthard suggests Paul di Resta should replace Michael Schumacher at Mercedes GP
Former McLaren driver David Coulthard has recently suggested that Paul di Resta should replace Michael Schumacher if an opportunity arises.
“Unquestionably for me that would be the perfect scenario. Not that I want to force Michael out of the sport but when he decides to retire, whether it is this year, next year or whenever, Paul has a good relationship with Mercedes,” he said.
There are rumours that Schumacher might retire from the sport after the 2011 Formula 1 season since he has not been able to achieve his goals after his return and even now, he is struggling to outperform his teammate Nico Rosberg.
Mercedes GP are definitely an improving mid-running team and they are determined to become a consistent championship winning team with the help of their team principal, Ross Brawn.
Paul di Resta is a young talented driver and he has proved that he has the ability of scoring some good results provided that he is driving a good car.
Di Resta is currently driving for Force India which is a pretty good mid-running team of the sport as they are currently in 7th place in the constructors’ standings with 26 points.
The team is headed by Vijay Mallya and it seems that he is quite keen to keep the young Scot for a long time at his team.
“Of course, Force India have desires to be a winning team in the future but, realistically, he (di Resta) has got to make tough decisions and try and fast-track himself into the best car possible,” said Coulthard.
Mercedes GP were expected to be a top running team of the sport this year as they were looking extremely competitive during the pre-season test sessions of the 2011 Formula 1 season. They struggled to perform after the season began however and since then,
they have been trying their best to improve their car in order to score some decent results.
The team has announced that they have shifted their focus to 2012 now and they are hoping of scoring some good results next year.
