David Coulthard will stay with Red Bull as their consultant in 2011
Former McLaren driver David Coulthard recently revealed that he would now be the official commentator for BBC alongside Martin Brundle. Since this development, there were rumours that the former British driver might leave his position as a consultant for
Red Bull Racing Team.
The team won both drivers and constructors’ titles in 2010 after a dramatic season but their RB6 was clearly the fastest car on the grid. Under David Coulthard’s consultation, the team was able to secure a team director like Adrian Newey in the team and
most of the officials and professionals believe that the Adrian is the main reason behind the team’s success.
“David Coulthard will not be asked to drop or suspend his ties with Red Bull in the interests of impartiality,” a BBC spokeswoman told the media.
Despite the fact that he will be the official full time commentator at BBC, Coulthard hopes to stay up close with the action on the track and he is currently in the best position to do it.
Before this, David was BBC’s Formula 1 expert before retiring from Red Bull in 2009. Coulthard has been quite active in the sports recent activities and he was one of the most active consultants in 2010.
However, he is expected to replace Jonathan Legard at BBC and commentate alongside his fellow former driver Martin Brundle. It would be interesting to hear the two former British drivers in the commentary box together giving their versatile comments and
opinions.
“We take steps to ensure that none of the off-air relationships that our talent may have can compromise on-air activity,” added the spokesman from BBC.
Red Bull and Coulthard have declined to comment about this scenario. It seems that they have not decided anything officially yet and therefore, they are not willing to reveal anything at the moment. It would be interesting to see how this story develops
in the near future.
Coulthard is one of the most learned and a reliable person in this field and it is good to see him taking a role which would definitely suite him perfectly.
