David DeJesus meets up with former team-mates in Cactus League game – MLB Update
David DeJesus was traded to the Oakland Athletics last year after the 2010 Major League Baseball season concluded. The outfielder, who spent some time with the Kansas City Royals before his departure from the side, recently got the opportunity to interact
with his former team-mates as he represented his new club on the field, in a Cactus League game in Phoenix, Arizona.
As DeJesus made his way to the Royals’ camp for the match, he made sure he would pay a visit to the clubhouse to meet up with his former squad members. The game eventually ended with a 4-4 tie and that was fitting for the outfielder who wanted a peaceful
outing. Even though the player was not in the line-up, he made sure he caught up with the rest of the gang.
"It was cool just saying hi to everybody I played with, and [manager] Ned [Yost] and [hitting coach Kevin Seitzer] and [third-base coach] Eddie [Rodriguez]," DeJesus said. "It's good to see them -- hopefully they do the best. But you know when we play them,
we want to beat them."
DeJesus was traded over to the A’s for right-hander, Vin Mazzaro, and he has been making plate appearances as a first, second and third baseman. His outfield position is also settled on the right of the field. The player had a session with Manager Bob Green
when he made his way to the club last year.
"I told him, 'I'm going to be the same guy that I've been in Kansas City. I'm going to be a guy that goes up the middle or the other way. I'm not going to try to hit home runs,’" DeJesus said. "And he was like, 'That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I don't
want you changing your game out there.' That's awesome that we were on the same wavelength."
DeJesus reflected on his tenure with the Royals by praising the club and thanking them for sticking him in the field for 10 years. He nevertheless highlighted that his focus was on the new league season and a new start with a different club. DeJesus however
did not shoot down the possibility of going back to Kansas though.
