David DeJesus might be Chicago Cubs' leadoff hitter in 2012 – MLB Special
The Chicago Cubs were in a lot of trouble at the end of the 2011 Major League Baseball season when their several players could not do much that was expected from them. They not only disappointed their franchise but also never seemed greatly committed to
the game as well.
Once the season was over this very change of players’ attitudes and the low level of respect for the game was felt by the Cubs’ management, who thought it is the right time to bring some new players in, trade some of the players who are not productive and
might not do much for the franchise next season.
The very need of new players led them to think of bringing in some free agents and whom they can put more responsibility to upgrade the roster as well as the team results in the near future.
At the moment, when the MLB offseason is in full swing, the Cubs’ management decided to look around and see what is available in the 2011 MLB free agents’ market.
As they see the level of talent in the free agency period, the first thing they wanted to do was to include a good specialise hitter into the roster while looking at free agent David DeJesus’ talent and his past playing experience, they instantly went to
sign him.
Though, DeJesus and his agent did argue on the contractual conditions first but later agreed to a two year contract for $10 million with additional 2014 options.
The Cubs’ general manager Jed Hoyer made it official to the signing a two year deal with DeJesus,
“We're very excited to sign David; He's a player who does a lot of things very well, the bases and getting on base. And he doesn't strike out very much. These are all areas we wanted to improve on. He has the ability to play all the positions but he's playing
the corner outfield spots. We can work him in a lot of different spots in the line-up, our priority was to get more balance in our line-up from the left side, and David is a hitter who helps us in that area.”
After David officially signed with the Chicago Cubs’ after playing a full season with the Oakland Athletics, the baseball experts started to say that he will be the leadoff hitter for the Cubs’ next season. These experts, who have watched David DeJesus’
game closely, agree on the fact of his cheer commitment to the game and level of MLB experience he enjoys at the moment while no Cubs’ player currently has a hitting average of .240 which will be further improved in the 2012.
