David Diaz: I should have avoided Henry Lundy’s left hand punch – Boxing news
The former world champion, David ‘The Dangerous’ Diaz, lost his battle for the North American Boxing Federation’s lightweight title against the Hammerin Hank, Henry Lundy, in the Friday Night Fights.
This 10-round event was held at the Horseshoe Casino in the US.
The 35-year-old Diaz was knocked out by his 8 years younger opponent, Lundy, within 37 seconds of the sixth round and the main reason behind that was a brutal cut over Diaz’s right eye that left him covered in blood throughout the bout.
Therefore Diaz, who now has a fight record of winning 36 out of his 40 professional fights (1 draw), with 17 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, believes he should have changed his stance to avoid Lundy’s left hand, as the boxer claimed his the
cut blurred his vision.
“My mistake was going to my right,” Diaz said. “I should’ve gone to my left and stayed away from the left hand that was coming. It blurred my vision a lot.”
Diaz, who was examined by his ringside doctor twice during the fight, stated getting hurt in a sport like boxing is a normal thing and that is the reason why he continued fighting even after having the brutal cut.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “This is boxing. [Stuff] happens. You get hit, you get hurt, you get cut – if you don’t, then it’s not boxing. Back in the old days, guys used to get knocked out every day and come back in a month or two and
start fighting again, so it’s no big deal.”
Diaz in the end revealed he wants a rematch to avenge his defeat against Lundy.
“I would love to have a rematch if he would accept it,” Diaz remarked.
Let’s see whether Lundy offers Diaz a rematch or not, as it certainly will be another enthralling fight.
