David Diaz: Pacquiao should not take Bradley lightly – Boxing News
Former lightweight champion David Diaz expressed his views regarding Pacquiao vs. Bradley in a recent interview. The bout that is scheduled for June 9 at the MGM Grand is Pacquiao’s preparation to face Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to David Diaz.
Even though there is no confirmation of a bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao yet, Diaz thinks Pacquiao’s decision of facing unbeaten Timothy Bradley is a way of preparing his road to Floyd.
Diaz took the opportunity to say, “If he’s working his way to prepare himself for [Floyd] Mayweather, it might be. Even though I understand that Bradley is in no way, shape, or form a Floyd Mayweather, with the skills that Floyd Mayweather has, maybe just
to get him psychologically ready he wants to take on a guy who has decent speed and who sort of matches up to Mayweather.”
However, Diaz did mention that Bradley is a tough fighter and that Pacquiao should not take him lightly no matter what happens. He said, “I personally don’t think it’s a fight that Pacquiao should take lightly. Definitely go out there, because Bradley’s
a dangerous champion. Definitely be mindful of that. It isn’t just going to be a walk in the park.”
It should be noted here that Pacquiao would be defending his WBO welterweight title against Bradley. Since Diaz has faced Pacquiao previously in 2008, he thinks he is qualified enough to rate Manny’s skills. According to Diaz, Manny’s speed and power is
more or less the same as Mayweather and both of those factors have made him what he is today. Pacquiao had knocked out Diaz in the ninth round to win his fifth world title, which was the WBC lightweight crown.
Diaz then shifted his focus to Bradley saying that Bradley is up for the challenge and that he is good enough to give Pacquiao h**l in the ring. However, he added, since Pacquiao is a much more experienced fighter, it can be a little tough for Bradley to
explore his full potential before Pacquiao knocks him out.
Pacquiao will be facing Bradley for the first time. If Pacquiao wins, his chances of meeting Floyd Mayweather in the ring will increase even more.
