David Duval, Steve Stricker and Padraig Harrington selected for the World Golf Hall of Fame ballots
The PGA Tour stars, David Duval and Steve Stricker, have reportedly been picked for the 2013 ballots for the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum, officials told on Monday, July 2, 2012.
Duval is known for his historical win in the Open Championship in 2001 when he defeated Niclas Fasth with a three-stroke margin. Moreover, he also won the Players Championship in 1999 after taking a two-stroke margin over Scott Gump.
In total, he recorded 19 professional wins in his career, including 13 on the PGA Tour in a four-year stretch, starting from 1997.
Stricker, the winner of this year’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions, became eligible for the Hall of Fame ballots after registering the 10th PGA Tour victory of his career at the Memorial Tournament last year.
He also represented the US Ryder Cup team and Presidents Cup team twice and four times, respectively.
In the meantime, Padraig Harrington is also selected for the international ballot because of his great contributions to the game of golf.
He became eligible for the ballot after getting past the 50-point mark through his wins in two majors in 2008 — British Open and the PGA Championship.
Yet, he needed to get past the age of 40 in order to be selected for the ballet, which he did last year.
The ballots have now been sent to the Hall of Fame members, journalists and the game officials around the world, who will cast their votes according their knowledge and preferences.
According to the officials, the voting will close on July 27 and the class of the players will be decided at the end of this year.
"The 2012 Induction Ceremony took the Hall of Fame to new heights and we are already looking forward to 2013," said the Hall of Fame Chief Operating Officer Jack Peter.
"We are excited to begin that process by distributing the Class of 2013 ballots. Like golf fans around the world, we are eager to see the decisions of our voting body and welcome the next class of golf luminaries into the Hall of Fame".
The World Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on May 6, 2013, prior to the start of the Players Championship.
