David Fawkes to send his champion colt to Belmont for the Grade 1 Vosburgh
Trainer David Fawkes has pointed his 5-year-old horse, Big Drama, and his 4-year-old colt Apriority to run in the Grade 1 Vosburgh to be held at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011.
The 5-year-old Montbrook horse, Big Drama is expected to run next at Belmont Park after the Eclipse Champion sprinter of 2010 showed he is still one of the best sprinters around by winning the Whippleton Handicap at Calder racecourse on 4 September, 2011.
Big Drama returned to the races after a long layoff of more than 6 ½ months with an emphatic victory in the $72,750 Whippleton Handicap, when he defeated Black Diamond Cat by 2 ¼ lengths.
David Fawkes reported the horse’s likely start at Belmont Park and further said that he is happy the way he is performing.
It is the perfect time for Big Drama to pile up the wins just like he did back in 2010, and all ducks are in order to take on the rivals in the Grade 1 Vosburgh.
Big Drama is still residing at the Calder, and he will continue to train there before shipping to Belmont Park the week of the race.
Victory in the Whippleton Handicap was his second win of the year for Big Drama, who is now 2 of 2 in as many starts this year. His only race before was the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector on the Gulfstream Park dirt course.
The race was run over a distance of 6 furlongs on 15 January, 2011, under jockey E Coa, Big Drama romped past his rivals and never looked back until he hit the wire in 1 minute and 8.12 seconds.
Out of Riveting Drama by Notebook, Big Drama can still make it big in the year 2011,because there is still plenty of time before the season closes.
It’s amazing to see that Big Drama’s agility and hunger to win is still intact, even after a very long layoff he can still make an impact in the older sprinter’s division by doing well in the rest of the season.
