David Ferrer and Juan Monaco in action at Kuala Lumpur heights – Tennis News
Spanish star, David Ferrer, faced off the Argentinean number two, Juan Monaco, on helipad at the Intermark building in Kuala Lumpur. Both contestants are bidding for the title at the Proton Malaysian Open, an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World
Tour 250 Series event held in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia.
The top two seeds, Ferrer and Monaco, hit the balls on a helipad at the 65th floor of Intermark Building. Later they posed for photos and saw the fabulous scenes of the city. Both challengers are competing at the Putra Indoor Stadium and are eyeing
to grab their first Malaysian Open title.
The tournament director, Nick Freyer is delighted to have them at their event. He beamingly stated in a press conference:
“They both come off a long trip and we are very happy to welcome them in Kuala Lumpur.”
The world number five, Ferrer is coming off from a final four appearance at the US Open. He also trashed his opponents, John Isner and Sam Querrey, at the Davis Cup with conviction. Ferrer is looking forward to capture his sixth year-to-date title at this
event.
He will face off the conqueror of the match between Russia’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. and the British qualifier, Dominic Inglot, in the second round.
“It feels great to be back here,” said Ferrer, who was a semi-finalist in 2010 (l. to Golubev). “I have been here two times already, but I could never win the tournament. I hope for better chances this year, but the draw is very strong.”
Monaco, who also received a first round bye after being the top four players at this event, commented in an interview: “It’s my first time in Kuala Lumpur and I’m excited to get to know the city.”
The Argentinean star is eyeing for his fourth year-to-date title at this indoor hard court event. He is currently enjoying his career best season as he cracked the Top 10 in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings.
He will square off against the Taiwanese wild card entrant, Jimmy Wang, in the round of 16. Wang dumped the Italian qualifier, Riccardo Ghedin, in straight sets to reach this spot.
