David Ferrer and Kei Nishikori confirmed for the Malaysia Open – Tennis News
World number five David Ferrer and the Asian number one, Kei Nishikori, have announced their participation at the fourth edition of the Malaysian Open, an indoor hard court event taking place from 23rd to 30th September in Bukit Jalil
Sports Complex, Kuala Lumpur.
Putra Stadium will be welcoming the likes of the Spanish number two David Ferrer, who has already won four titles and has won more matches than anyone else on the ATP World Tour including the big four: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy
Murray.
The 30-year-old has won tournaments on all surfaces this season: s-Hertogenbosch on grass courts; Buenos Aires and Acapulco on the clay surface; and Auckland on hard courts.
Another top tennis star who will be featuring at this hard court tournament is Nishikori, who is ranked 18th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) world Tour Rankings. He made a strong start of this season and
made quarter-final berths at the Australian Open and Copa Claro before suffering abdominal injury which forced him out from the Roland Garros. However, the Japanese made a good return at the Wimbledon Championships where he cruised into the third round. Nishikori
is currently playing at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport where he made a winning start against the Dutch contestant, Igor Sijsling.
The tournament director Nick Freyer commented about Ferrer and Nishikori participation:
“With David being a Roland Garros semi-finalist, Wimbledon and Australian Open quarter finalist this year and having already won 2012 titles in Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco and ’s-Hertogenbosch, he will be the highest ranked player ever to play our tournament,”
“Kei... recovered from a stomach muscle injury that prevented him from playing at Roland Garros, he went on to reach the third round at Wimbledon. If his form continues, we hope that he will play the Malaysian Open.”
This ATP World Tour 250 series event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia and as part of their fourth edition, Malaysia Open has announced four new sponsors: Rado, Corona, 100 plus and the Double Tree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The long-term
sponsors of this tournament are Wilson, CNN International and Astro.
