David Ferrer books a berth in the season-end finale in London – Tennis News
World number five, David Ferrer, has confirmed a spot in the season-end finale that will take place in the O2 arena at London. He has clearly shown the ability to hang on to the Top-5 slot despite such an amazing competition from
all players that are hanging beneath him in the world rankings. At the age of 30, the Spaniard has managed to squeeze another successful season out and people just can’t imagine when the prolific tennis star from Spain will hold up his hands and say goodbye
to the world of tennis because at the moment, he is playing superbly well.
On qualifying to the season-end finale, Ferrer commented, “I am very happy because to qualify for the World Tour Finals is a great achievement. It's always one of my goals at the beginning of each year. I look forward to coming
back to the O2 in London to play against the best players in the world in November. The atmosphere in the stadium is incredible there.”
He has always thought of playing like his idol who is the first player to complete a Career Gold Slam in the history of tennis, Andre Agassi. In the first clash against Agassi, Ferrer won but the press-conference afterwards was
just about the respect and praise he had for Agassi. He stated, “Since I was 12, Agassi has been my idol and I never thought I'd play on the same court as him. I kept thinking: 'I'm playing against Andre Agassi on centre court,' but then I just told myself
to stay calm, relax and enjoy it.”
So, big players like Ferrer shows the world what consistency is all about? He has won 62 matches this year and fallen on 14 occurrences. Amongst those losses, he lost to the superior ranked players on eight different meetings;
thrice to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal whilst once apiece to Roger Federer and Andy Murray. The record is clear cut evidence of his class and the level of steadiness shown by him. He is a definite threat to all superior seeds in the season-end finale as
well.
