David Ferrer cruises past Benoit Paire to reach round three – Roland Garros 2012
Sixth seeded David Ferrer trashed the local contestant, Benoit Paire, in straight sets at the French Open 2012, second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris, France. He jolted down a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 victory against the world number 69 to breeze into the
round of 32 at this second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris, France.
The Spanish number two displayed top notch performance to outsmart Pair in one hour and 47 minutes. After earning the spotlight on Court One, Ferrer edged past the French and booked a spot in the round of 32 at this prestigious clay court tournament.
"I played well," the Spaniard reflected after the match. "I was consistent and I didn't give him many opportunities so that he could really get into the match. He's very aggressive with drop shots, with an exceptional touch, but the good thing is that I
could break him during the first set quickly and won the match."
Paire acknowledged, "I walked on the court against Ferrer and I knew it would be a complicated match. It's true I'm very disappointed, very frustrated.”
Ferrer made a sloppy start and suffered the first blow in the second game to fall at 0-2. However, he made a stunning reply and went on a five-game killing spree to leap to a 5-2 lead. Regardless of losing his edge in the eighth game, the Spaniard broke
his rival’s serve again and clicked the opener with a 6-3 win.
The world number six kept momentum rolling into the follow-up set and earned the coveted break in the second game to jump to a 3-0 lead. He then held remaining serves and sealed the set by winning six games to three. Ferrer capitalised on one out of eight
break chances and dusted away both breakpoints he came across.
The 30-year-old improved his game in the third set and quickly slid his entire serves without facing any breakpoint. He cashed in two out of five break opportunities and clinched the set with a 6-2 score line.
Ferrer will square off against the 27th seed, Mikhail Youzhny, who triumphed over the Dutch number one, Robin Haase, in straight sets to set-up this clash.
