David Ferrer desires to sustain his winning momentum in the next ATP season – Tennis News
Spanish veteran, David Ferrer, is riding the best form of his career at the moment and aims at continuing his winning impetus in the upcoming ATP season. The 30-year-old still moves like a teenager on all sorts of tennis courts
and is enjoying his game at this age.
Ferrer had a smashing 2012 ATP circuit, wining seven championship titles in total and sustaining his world number five rank with ease. Despite of the aging factor, his game play has been absolutely phenomenal and the Spaniard provided
sheer entertainment to the tennis fanatics all over the world. Most of the players tend to end their tennis career after reaching 30 years of age but Ferrer’s current form clearly suggests that he can easily play like this for the next three to four years
to come.
"My performance has been consistent throughout the year and this is down to many years of playing against the very best in the industry," Ferrer said.
Finishing off the 2012 season with a formidable 76-15 winning record, Ferrer is rated among the top contenders for winning any tournament he participates in. The Spanish number two is a regarded as a clay-court expert, as he bagged
three out of seven ATP championships on red dirt this year. However, the 2012 ATP season also brought three hard-court titles and one championship trophy on grassy surface to him.
Ferrer had a brilliant experience at Abu Dhabi last winter, winning the opening two matches in style. He was 2-6 down in the first set against the French powerhouse, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but came from behind to wrap up his victory
at 2-6, 7-6, 6-2, in the end. He went on to register another huge upset by hunting down his fellow compatriot, Rafael Nadal, in the semi-final round. He registered a 6-2, 6-3, victory over the former world number one but couldn’t carry on his momentum in the
final round, submitting to Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 2-6, 1-6.
"It is a very good start to the year for me," Ferrer said of his week in Abu Dhabi. "Playing against such good opponents early on sets you up for a good season."
It will be a treat to watch one of the most successful players on the ATP World Tour compete against other top athletes in the exhibition event this weekend. He will go one-on-one against the world number six, Tomas Berdych, on
the opening day of the tournament.
