David Ferrer dismisses Marcel Granollers in the round two – BNP Paribas Masters 2012
Fourth seed, David Ferrer of Spain, showed no respite to his countryman, Marcel Granollers, beating him in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris.
The Spaniard needed an hour and 17 minutes to topple Granollers in a one sided match.
Ferrer and Granollers held their serve in the first two games, squaring off the score at 1-1. The world number five did not allow his lower ranked compatriot to win even a single game later on, winning five consecutively to grab
it 6-1.
The 30-year-old hit a single ace and made the same number of double fault in the opening set. The right-hander kept his first serve percentage at 62 and secured 14 of the 21 points on them. He also did a good job on the replies
to Granollers’ deliveries, clinching three of the five first and seven of the 11 second serve points. The Javea, Spain born converted the two break points he received and saved the two he faced.
Second set went with serve in the opening four games, levelling the proceedings at 2-2. Ferrer hit blows to Granollers in the fifth and seventh, building a 5-2 lead. The Spanish star could not finish it off in the eighth game,
as he lost his serve but broke Granollers again in the ninth to close it 6-3.
Both players failed to hit any ace and committed a single double fault in the second set. Ferrer won most of the points on the first serves and second returns, pocketing 11 of the 12 and nine of the 13 points on them respectively.
The 5ft 9in tall could not put away the only break threat he came across this time but availed three of the four he created of his own.
Ferrer is having one of the most successful years of his career. The Spanish number two has won six tour level titles in this season and is tied with Roger Federer in the race of most crowns.
The Spaniard is pitted against the 14th seed, Stanislas Wawrinka, in the third round.
