David Ferrer drags down Nikolay Davydenko in quarter-final bout round – Valencia Open 2011
David Ferrer, Spanish world No.5, the top seed and the defending champion for Valencia Open 2011, overpowered Russian world No.36, Nikolay Davydenko, as the two played the quarter-final match at Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències,
Valencia, Spain on Friday, 4th of November. Brawling out on hard indoor circuit, Ferrer finished off the match in an hour and 21 minutes winning in straight easy sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Commencing with the match, the two veterans walked down the blue hard trough and warmed up before the Spaniard ignited the fixture. Serving for the match start, Ferrer rolled down the scoreboards with a triple game point win, 1-0,
switching the serve to the former world No.3.
Davydenko, Russian, followed with a winner to level up the scores at 1-1 and stood to return again. The Spaniard pulled off another triple game point winner and flared up as he broke the Russian in game four, 3-1, and served out
game five to lead the set, 4-1.
Davydenko, serving out game six, 4-2, pulled off with a breakpoint in game seven to cut the lead to 4-3. Unable to capitalize next, Russian former world No.3 went down as Ferrer broke back right away to lead to set, 5-3. Left with
just one more win to finish off the set, the top seed fired up a down-the-line winner to captivate the set, 6-3, and moved on to the next set.
Leading the match, 1-0, Ferrer returned first in the second set. Rolling down the scoreboard first, Davydenko stormed out game one, 1-0, followed by the higher ranked rival serving out to even up the scores, 1-1. Winning a game
each next both equalled up again at 2-2, before the Spaniard turned the tables.
Breaking the Russian in game five of set two, Ferrer bagged another winner to lead the set, 3-2, and followed with a winner pocketing game six, 4-2. With just two more games left for the Spaniard to makes his way into the semis
stage, Ferrer blew away two out of the next four games ending the match in game ten with a cross court winner, 6-4.
Davydenko did pull back few games, however, was unable to break and make a comeback. Making his way into the final stages of the ATP World Tour 500 event, the reigning champion now moves on to play against Italian counterpart,
Juan Monaco, to battle out for a spot in the final round of Valencia Open 2011.
